Diwali is around the corner and every day I am attending Diwali parties with friends. I took out my Banarasi saree and wore it. I have worn this gorgeous Banarasi saree here and here earlier. It is one of my best collections. It has a soft silk, beautiful colours and extremely muted zari.
Banarasi sarees can be categorized into four distinct varieties, namely pure silk (katan), organza (kora) with zari and silk, georgette and shattir. Of these, the pure silk variety is the most renown. On the basis of design, Banarasi sarees are also classified into jangla, tanchoi, vaskat, cutwork, tissue and butidar.
The one I am wearing is Katan silk. It has kalga and bel.
In this type of Sarees colourful silk threads are used. It has intricate patterns that add value to design. Kalga and bel vegetation motif, that scrolls and spread in sarees is expected to be first in Banaras brocades. intricate intertwining floral and foliate motifs, kalga and bel, a string of upright leaves called jhallar at the outer, edge of border is a characteristic of these sarees. Rose Saree consists of embellished gold creepers and silver flowers motif gives stylish look. It is latifa buti (an inverted or swaying floral pattern), and zal (a trellis, incorporating floral and geometrical patterns).
