I wear a Suit (Indian ensemble comprising of a shirt- of different shapes and lengths, some kind of pants- narrow, wide, etc and a scarf, called duppatta), maybe 2-3 times a year. And that is an effort for me. Indian women find wearing a sari cumbersome and suit/salwar kameez, very comfortable and convenient. Suit, somehow does not work for me.
I wore this to go to a Sufi night. Sufi is a different kind of music and presently it is a great fad in Delhi. Every possible restaurant has a Sufi night.
Sufi music is the devotional music of the Sufis, inspired by the works of Sufi poets. It is central to whirling dervishes.
Do I particularly enjoy Sufi music? To be very honest- No.
Why are people thronging to sufi nights? It is the same as simply going for clubbing where you barely know how to dance and just keep moving, looking around at others, banging your head, keeping one or both hands up in the air. Majority of people, who are non dancers, find such do's very enjoyable. You can chit chat with each other in the sufi night, with light music playing around you, while you wine and dine and consume some unnecessary calories.
